If something happens to your computer as a result of the use of this program, I release ALL responsiblity to YOU! This program has been tested on at least three different systems and seems to work well, but I say this JUST IN CASE there is a problem. You may NOT decompile or otherwise alter this program for ANY use. You may NOT edit or alter the display screens produced (though you may delete one or more in its entirety). The user will assume all risks of this software. The following file MUST be present in their unmodified form when and if you distribute this program... SFWRITE.TXT <=== this text file with info about this program SFWRITE.EXE <=== Spitfire WELCOME/SFNWSLTR Writer Version 3.2 program FILE_ID.DIZ <=== File Description for BBS's REGISTER.TXT <=== Registration form to be printed and filled out! If one or more files is missing or messed up, call SHARE-IT BBS! for a new copy (number is at the end of this file). Registration Fee: ÄÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÄ Don't you hate having a really good program and then you see the author wants $20-$50 for it? I run a BBS and I often do not have that kind of money for a program, regardless of how 'GOOD' it may be. So, I am not here to do that to you. I am going to make this 'CHEAP-WARE' I suppose you could call it. The registration is really low and easy to do. Just print the registration form file and send the money. This program will cost you around a dollar or two. (You send $1 or more... that will do it). If you send cash (or check to Jim Mohr), you will call my BBS and download it from me with your BBS name/SysOp name embeded into the program. If you do not want to call, simply up the registration fee to $5 or more and I will mail you a NEW 3.5" high density disk with the program on it (the extra price is for the shipping and handling, you know). You are free to use SFWRITE as long as you would like, provided you remember that it will say 'THIS BBS' and 'SYSOP' instead of your BBS name and SysOp name. Setting Up: ÄÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÄ Copy the program SFWRITE.EXE to your Spitfire DISPLAY directory... Example: COPY SFWRITE.EXE C:\SF\DISPLAY (This program creates the screen in the current directory, therefore it has to be copied to the Spitfire DISPLAY directory). Run SFWRITE from your Spitfire DISPLAY directory... SFWRITE.EXE You will be presented with a screen which is headed which reads "WELCOME/ SFNWSLTR Writer For Spitfire BBS Version 3.2". Inside the BLUE window it will display in RED background and YELLOW foreground the following information... ENTER NUMBER OF WELCOME SCREEN 2-9 OR ENTER N FOR SFNWSLTR: For this line you simply press the number of the corresponding welcome screen you want to create. For example, to create WELCOME3.[BCR] you would press the number 3 and it will be creating WELCOME3.BBS, WELCOME3,CLR, and WELCOME3.RIP. If you rather it create the SFNWSLTR.[BCR] file, simply press the letter N for NEWS LETTER! (If the file DOES EXIST you will be prompted with:) FILE EXISTS... OVERWRITE/APPEND/RESTART/EXIT [O/A/R/E] Well, this may need a little explaining. If WELCOMEx.BBS or SFNWSLTR.BBS exists, you will get this 'error' message. You can do ONE of four things. OVERWRITE: this will use the same file name but erase the old information. APPEND: this will keep the old info. and add another screen to the end (multi screens). RESTART: this causes the program to begin again so you can enter a different screen name. EXIT: this will exit you from SFWRITE to your DOS prompt. ENTER FOREGROUND COLOR (ANSI/RIP SCREENS) (0=Û1=Û2=Û3=Û4=Û5=Û): This line here will allow you to choose 1 of 6 available colors for the foreground of your ANSI and RIP screens. 0 is light green, 1 is light cyan, 2 is light red, 3 is light magenta, 4 is yellow, and 5 is white. All you need to do here is press a valid number (0-5). ADD CLEAR SCREEN CHARACTER TO BEGINNING? [Y/N] Some BBS's I noticed like to scroll the messages up one screen, I, however, think it goes slower. If you say YES here (press Y), the Spitfire display character ^L (control+L) will be used to clear the BBS (ASCII), CLR (ANSI), and the RIP screens. This is totally up to you, but I suggest saying YES. (The display character ^C and ^B are already used which disables callers ablilty to break out of the display and inhibits the more prompt). Now that that is all finished, it is time for the editor. SFWRITE Editor: ÄÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÄ Ok, so maybe I am not the best programmer on the face of the earth, but here goes... The editor is kinda special in some ways. It reads each and every character in separately into an array (this may mean nothing to you, so do not concern yourself with it). You may hit BACKSPACE to delete previous characters entered. When you either reach the beginning of the line or the far end, the program will send a BEEP to the speaker. This is to let you know that you have indeed reached the beginning or end of the current line. PAY ATTENTION HERE!! AFTER YOU PRESS THEN KEY YOUR LINE OF TEXT IS SAVED DIRECTLY TO THE FILE AND YOU MAY _NOT_ USE THE ARROWS TO EDIT PREVIOUS LINES... (in fact, do not use the arrows or F-Keys because they MAY throw the screen out of line). I hope to resolve this little editing thing, but for now (and maybe forever) and is the way this program will except your data. REMEMBER THAT!!! Notice that the first line is 4 lines from the top of the blue window. This is where it starts. You have from that first line (where the cursor begins) to the very bottom of the blue box (15 lines) in which to enter your information. When you reach the end of the last line and press the key for the very last time OR if you press the key to save and exit, the current line will be saved and the rest of the screen will be created. **Never press CTRL+C or CTRL+BREAK while in the editor.. this will cause SFWRITE to create half a screen and you will have to delete it (as stated below). You MAY, however, press ESC as the WELCOME SCREEN number to exit SFWRITE, or simply press CTRL+C on the pre-editor screen. Deleting Unwanted WELCOMEx.[BCR] & SFNWSLTR.[BCR] Screens ÄÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÄ To completely delete a WELCOMEx.[BCR] screen (all the ANSI, ASCII, and RIP versions), enter: DEL C:\SF\DISPLAY\WELCOMEx.* Example: DEL C:\SF\DISPLAY\WELCOME2.* To delete one part of a screen on a multi informational screen (that is, a WELCOMEx.[BCR] or SFNWSLTR.[BCR] file with more that one SFWRITE screen on it), use a regular ASCII editor (such as Microsoft Edit) and open your appropriate WELCOMEx.[BCR] or SFNWSLTR.[BCR] screens! Now, notice I said SCREENS (plural).. you must edit ALL THREE or they will not be consistant with each other. If you do delete one, YOU MUST DELETE THE SCREEN IN ITS ENTIRETY (as stated in the 'DISCLAIMER' above). This way is kind of confusing, so I would suggest just running SFWRITE again and re- creating the screen fully. You may NOT delete just part of one screen and you may NOT read this screen in by another program to change the way it displays. Viewing ANSI/ASCII/RIP Screens: ÄÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÄ To view the files, you can simply enter TYPE at the DOS prompt followed by the screen name. This works for CLR (ANSI) and the BBS (ASCII) versions of the screen. Example: TYPE WELCOME2.CLR Example: TYPE WELCOME2.BBS To view RIP screens, you will need a RIP screen viewer. If you have one enter its name (instead of the word TYPE) followed by the screen name with the RIP extention. You will see the RIP version with funny ANSI code characters in the WINDOW. There is nothing wrong with this. When running through Spitfire, the text will appear in FULL ANSI color. Example: VIEWTRIP WELCOME2.RIP Summary: ÄÍÍÍÍÍÍÄ Follow the directions given on the first screen of SFWRITE just as they are shown. Entering a number 2-9 to create a WELCOMEx.CLR, WELCOMEx.BBS, or a WELCOMEx.RIP screen. Or enter N to create a SFNWSLTR.CLR, SFNWSLTR.BBS or a SFNWSLTR.RIP screen. If file exists, choose to OVERWRITE, APPEND, RESTART, or EXIT. Now you can choose and color (0-5). Do you want to add clear screen character? Now you can edit. Remember that the editor saves each line and will not allow you to edit after you ENTER a line of text. There is a 15 line maximum. Credits/Thank You's: ÄÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÄ Ok, time to show who actually gets some credit for this here little util... Yep, I Jim Mohr of SHARE-IT BBS! have put together this program. You may get in touch with my by writing the below address or calling SHARE-IT BBS! I would like to take the next few lines to thank the Lord Jesus Christ for the key ingredient of patience with this program (and the knowledge to write version 3.2 -previous versions not released). I would also like to thank the SysOps of Symposium BBS for testing the program and giving some suggestions (including putting SF Welcome Writer and SF News Letter Writer into one program which I called SFWRITE)! Thanks guys. Finally, I want to give credit to Mike Woltz for creating Spitfire. "Spitfire" is Copyright (c) 1987-1993 by Mike Woltz. "Microsoft-Edit Ver. 0.9.019" Copyright (c) Microsoft Corp 1994.
